Overview
Before you can use AMS on your phone you need to ensure that it has the correct service settings so that the application can communicate with the AMS server over the internet. On GSM networks such as Vodafone NZ these settings are called access points and different ones are required for different types of connections. The access point most commonly used on the Vodafone NZ network is the "VFNZ Internet" access point. Usually this is already listed on your phone but if it isn't you will need to load it. For Vodafone NZ phones this can be done from the Vodafone NZ website http://wireless.vodafone.co.nz/phonefirst. For Nokia phones this can be done using their configuration tool as described below.
| Data Plan Please note that to have access to the "VFNZ Internet" access point you must have a data plan for your phone. This is probably the case with other providers as well so check with your mobile operator first. This is no longer the case. On Vodafone NZ you can use the casual $1 per day rate to use the VFNZ Internet access point. Depending on your particular phone you can do this with on Post Pay or Pre Pay. We have found that Series 60 Nokia handsets such as the N95 are able to use all access points on both Post Pay or Pre Pay however Series 40 handsets such as the Nokia 6085 have problems when using a Pre Pay SIM. |
Nokia Phones
| Nokia Service Configuration You may need to open the https://nokiags.wdsglobal.com/advanced?siteLanguageId=118 in a new window or browser tab as clicking the link directly may redirect you to the Nokia site. Also copy & pasting the link in a new window should work as well. |
To get the settings for your phone visit this web based tool, https://nokiags.wdsglobal.com/advanced?siteLanguageId=118 and follow the on screen instructions. The video below demonstrates the general process. Different models may have alternate instructions but the web site configuration tool will provide relevant instructions for your model.
Other Phones
In general you mobile operator should be able to send correct settings to you phone via SMS. Usually by calling their customer support you can get these sent to you phone. However if you have problems with this you can always enter the settings manually. The settings for different providers are listed below.
