Data Access
To use AMS you will need a data access for the device you are installing onto. This must be setup before you install. Call your mobile provider and ensure you have data access for your account as well as the specific phone number of the device you will be using for AMS. Also you should make sure you have the correct Access Point settings. The recommended settings for New Zealand, Fiji and PNG users are:
On Nokia Series 40 devices, such as the 6085, this access point must be set as the preferred access for the device, see the Nokia Series 40 Setup page for more information. Other Nokia devices will prompt you for the access point to use when a connection is required. See the Service Configuration page for more information on obtaining the correct access point settings for your phone. |

Installing the J2ME AMS ClientAMS uses an OTA (Over The Air) installation method similar to other mobile Java applications. The process is essentially the same across different mobile devices but varies in details such as storage location. The general process is:
The following illustrates this process on a Nokia E63. Sample AMS Installation Using A Nokia E63Using the WAP browser to download AMSThe WAP browser on the Nokia E63 is called "Web". On other Nokia devices it can also be called "Internet", "Services" and on some Vodafone branded handsets it is called "Vodafone Live". Locate the WAP browser:
Select "Go to" -> "Navigation Options" -> "Go to web address" from the menu.
Enter "http://kinross-wap.net" as the address:
If the phone asks for which access point to use, select appropriate option (see above for access point informaiton). On the website click the install link, which should display your phone model, and choose "Yes" to download. Older versions are further down the page.
Continue through any security warnings or application information alerts. If prompted choose the phone memory as the install location.

Troubleshooting
The most common problem encountered with installing AMS is ensuring you have data access from your phone that allows access to the AMS server. For most NZ users this means having access to either the "VFNZ Internet" access point(Vodafone) from your phone or "internet.telecom.co.nz" (Telecom) This usually involves having a data plan for your mobile. Talk with your account manager to determine the right plan for you.
Once you have a data plan in place for your mobile you need to make sure you have the correct access point settings are installed. For Nokia phones see the Service Configuration page for information about settings the settings sent to your phone.
You can test if you have correct access by selecting either the "VFNZ Internet" access point or the "internet.telecom.co.nz" access point and using your phones browser to connect to http://ams.kinrossgroup.com. If you already have the AMS mobile client installed you can go to "Settings" -> "Test Connection" from within AMS to check your connection's status. The "Test Connection" methods should return "Connection OK" if everything is set correctly.
Other things to check are:
- Make sure "Host" on the "Settings" screen of AMS is set to: ams.kinrossgroup.com
- Make sure "Port" on the "Settings" screen of AMS is set to: 80
- Ensure you have a Message Box setup and are using the right username and password
- Ensure you have a compatible phone
- Ensure you have enough signal to establish a data connection
- Ensure your data connection is working - you can test this by visiting a website using you phone's web browser
