Barcode Scanning

General Information

AMS currently supports barcode scanning using Microvision's ROV Scanner with the BlackBerry version of AMS. Only the Bluetooth Scanner is supported. More information about this scanner can be found at Microvision's website. Some features of the ROV include:

  1. On device memory to support batch scanning whilst detached from the phone
  2. Uses 3 AAA batteries (can use rechargeable ones)
  3. Can read: UPC/EAN/JAN, Code 39, Code 128, Interleaved 2 of 5, RSS, Codabar

Some more details can also be found in the ROV developer FAQ.

Other types of scanners maybe supported in the future.

Scanning With AMS

AMS allows scanning of one or more items. This is done by adding a barcode scan command to the card you wish to scan into your template. You can scan on both Form and List cards. In both instances you select the field you want the scanned data to be put into. On Form cards you scan into a single field. On List cards each scan will create a new entry using that card's child template and placing the barcode data into the assign field of the child template. Scanning inside a List card is an easy way to collect multiple scans.

At the moment we do not support scanning into any field but if you need that functionality let us know and we can support it.

Scanning Using Nokia S60 Phones

It is possible to use the Serial Magic Pro software from Microvision to scan on a Nokia S60 phone. This method only allows the scanned data to be inputed into a field as if it were done via the keypad but doesn't allow multiple entries to be added as on a List card in the BlackBerry version of AMS.
